Pictures of the Reykjanes peninsula. It is located in the southwest of Iceland, nearby the Capital Reykjavík. The area is characterized by active volcanism, the land is formed by lava fields and one can see the steam coming out of the surface from far away. Volcanic activity there is so high that the surface temperature in the gunnuhuver area reaches about 100° celsius. Famous spots there are the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, a geothermal power plant, the gunnuhver hot mud spring area and the cliffs of hafnaberg.

Bilder von der Halbinsel Reykjanes im Südwesten von Island, nicht weit von der Hauptstadt Reykjavìk. Die Landschaft dort ist geprägt von Vulkanismus und geothermaler Aktivität. Von weitem sieht man den heissen Dampf aufsteigen, die vielen Lavafelder lassen nur wenig Platz für Vegetation. Im Gunnhuver Gebiet erreicht die Bodentemperatur teilweise 100 Grad Celsius, wo wegen steigender Aktivität sogar eine Strasse gesperrt werden musste. Zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten der Region zählen die Blaue Lagune, ein geothermales Krafwerk, das Heißquellengebiet Gunnhuver sowie die Klippen bei Hafnaberg.
